I really like this quote, and I also think it is 100% true. All children are artists: they love to create new things and are always drawing, painting or writing something; however, most of the times, adults are the ones who take the Art side off of the children, telling them that their drawings are not good enough, or that they writings don’t make any sense, or that they should paint inside the lines, etc.; simply trying to make them square-minded, ordinary, “linears” (in a sense of monotony). Most of the adults decide to suppress Art from their lives, convincing themselves that it is useless, and they judge those who think otherwise; and they also tend to demoralize those who opt for an artistical career rather than a technical or “profitable” (as they call it) career.
This is a fantastic quote. While I didn’t enjoy ‘Not That Kind Of Girl’ as much as most people seemed to, there were quite a few meaningful passages that struck me as very honest observations.
